How To Organize Your Closet After A Vacation

How To Organize Your Closet After A Vacation

Summertime is a season of vacations and getaways, much needed after cold winters and rainy springs. However, it's also a season of disorganization with packing for a trip and returning home with stuffed suitcases (and newfound purchases).

Keep the mood going even after you check out of your hotel. Banish the after-trip mess stress by ensuring your closet at home stays clean and organized. Keep your closet organized by following these simple tips.

1. Track Your Items

Take inventory of your wardrobe before packing for your trip. This will help you determine what you need to bring with you (and what things can stay).

Once you're home, take inventory again. Check for any clothing items that may have been lost or damaged during your travels, and decide whether you want to keep them or get rid of them.

2. Stick With A Plan

Have a plan for your items long before you set off on a new adventure. This is best accomplished by setting guidelines via a step-by-step plan.

Ask yourself: how should your items be unpacked? Should they be hung up, folded, or placed in a specific spot in your closet? What needs to be washed?

3. Determine Deep Storage

After each trip, go through your items to determine what needs to be stored and where. Less used items can be kept in plastic storage containers or vacuum-sealed bags, then stored in the attic, basement, or another out-of-the-way location. More immediate items can be held at the front of the closet.

It's important to determine what works best for you and your family. Using the proper organization tips will help you avoid wasting time (and energy) on re-organizing your space every time you go on a trip. It will also keep your wardrobe organized and mind at peace—no matter where you roam!
